The brief

Why this work is worth doing properly

Renewable strategy fails in one of two ways: a business case built on an annual average load that collapses on contact with the real duty cycle, or a procurement deal that buys certificates without buying an emissions reduction anyone can defend. Orvita works the engineering and the accounting together, so the plan that clears finance is the same plan that clears your auditor.

Energy strategy for operations that are hard to serve

Grid-connected offices are the easy case. The difficult cases are the ones Orvita was built for: mine sites and processing plants running on diesel gensets, agricultural operations with seasonal pumping loads, port and marine operations, and remote facilities where a grid connection either does not exist or would cost more than the generation itself.

For those sites the question is never simply solar or wind. It is what mix of generation, storage, demand shifting and retained thermal capacity meets the load at the availability the operation actually requires, at a cost of energy that beats the delivered price of fuel including logistics, and with a maintenance profile a remote crew can sustain.

From feasibility to signed contract

We begin with a measured load profile, ideally at interval resolution, and build the site energy model around it: generation yield from local resource data, storage sizing against the overnight and peak hours, genset retention for reliability, and the resulting fuel displacement in litres and tonnes of CO2e. That produces a levelised cost of energy you can compare honestly with the fuel line in your current budget.

On the procurement side we run the sourcing: shortlisting counterparties, comparing physical, sleeved and virtual PPA structures, testing tenor, indexation, volume risk and shape risk, and checking that the contractual instruments satisfy the GHG Protocol Scope 2 quality criteria so the market-based reduction is defensible.

The output is a sequenced roadmap rather than a single decision: what to do this year with existing capital, what needs a business case, what depends on a grid or regulatory change, and what each step removes from your reported emissions.

What you get

Deliverables

Every engagement ends in documents your team, your auditor and your lender can all use.

Load profile and site energy model

Interval-level demand analysis with generation, storage and genset dispatch modelled against the duty cycle your operation actually runs.

Hybrid and off-grid feasibility study

Solar, wind, battery and retained thermal options sized and costed, with levelised cost of energy and fuel displacement in litres and tonnes CO2e.

Energy balance and hotspot map

Consumption disaggregated to the systems that drive it, so the largest addressable losses are visible rather than inferred.

Scope 2 claim design

Procurement structured so the market-based reduction meets GHG Protocol quality criteria and survives assurance.

Transition roadmap

A sequenced multi-year plan with capital requirement, expected abatement and dependency mapping for each step.

Investment-grade business case

Cash flow, payback, sensitivity and risk register in the form your board and your lender expect to see it.

How we work

Four stages, no black boxes

You see the method, the sources and the workings at every step.

  1. 01

    Baseline the energy demand

We take real consumption data, fuel deliveries and interval meter reads, and reconstruct the load your site places on its power system.

  2. 02

    Model the options

Generation, storage and hybrid configurations are simulated against local resource data and the reliability the operation genuinely requires.

  3. 03

    Test the commercials

Capital, operating cost, fuel avoided, incentives and PPA structures are modelled to a levelised cost you can defend in an investment committee.

  4. 04

    Sequence and support delivery

We turn the preferred option into a phased roadmap and stay involved through tendering, counterparty selection and contract review.

Questions we are asked

Strategy questions, answered

Can renewables realistically replace diesel at a remote site?

Often more than operators expect. A solar and battery hybrid commonly displaces forty to seventy per cent of annual diesel at a remote site while keeping generation redundancy intact. We model your actual load profile hour by hour rather than using an annual average, because the economics live in the overnight and peak-load hours, not in the headline capacity number.

What is the difference between a physical and a virtual PPA?

A physical PPA delivers electrons to your meter through a supplier, and suits sites on a grid with a matching balancing arrangement. A virtual or financial PPA settles the difference between a strike price and the market price, and delivers the certificates without moving power to your site. We model both, depending on your grid circumstances, against your load, your market and your Scope 2 market-based reporting position before recommending either.

How do renewable claims affect our carbon reporting?

Directly. Under the GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance, only contractual instruments that meet the quality criteria can lower your market-based figure, and unbundled certificates are treated differently from a bundled PPA. We design the procurement so the claim you want to make is the claim the standard actually permits, and the sourcing evidence is retained for verification.
